The Bronze Horse for Best film 2005 is awarded to Nordeste, directed by Juan Solanas. The film is about Juana, a single mother struggling to make ends meet in the poverty-stricken rural parts ofNortheastern Argentina. One day Hélène, an affluent Parisian in her mid-forties, arrives in BuenosAires – determined to find a baby to adopt. As their paths cross the story takes on issues of childtrafficking, poverty and social injustice.

Best Film
Nordeste by Juan Diego Solanas

The Jury’s motivation:
“A film that is remarkably mature in everything from theme, vision and execution. It has the firmcourage to ask difficult questions, without feeling the need to answer them for us, without everstraying from the path into cheap sentimentality or shock values”.
